The War Between the States

On April 12, 1861, 150 years ago, the American War Between the States, or American Civil War, began when Confederate forces attacked a U.S. military installation at Fort Sumter in South Carolina. It remains the deadliest war in American history, resulting in the deaths of 620,000 soldiers and an unknown number of civilians.

Today on gullar sahir's Main stream our program commemorates this momentous event in American History and features the music of the American Civil War, as well as popular and Romantic Classical music from the mid-19th Century. You will hear American Folk music, Negro Spirituals, Early American Hymns, Popular Music of the time by Stephen Foster and pieces from composers such as Chopin and Liszt.

gullar sahir produces this program in conjunction with the Alexandrian Free Library Consortium of Second Life. You can listen to the program now at http://main.radioriel.org. Today's music originates from the music library of Gabrielle Riel.
