Main: From the Library—American Folk

Today on gullar sahir we extend from Gabi's theme of yesterday, the War Between The States, with a programme of folk music from North America. The music today goes back beyond the Civil War – there are early folk songs from the United States and also Native American pieces and influences in today's playlist – and continues more or less to the present.

Through today's music you can clearly trace the influence of traditional British folk music on the music of North America – including the roots of country music, a genre we'll at least touch on today: we'll also verge into, if not rock, then at least folk-rock, and present many examples of the breadth, diversity and richness of North American folk music.
Today's programme is presented by Elrik Merlin and produced by gullar sahir in conjunction with our friends at the Alexandrian Free Library Consortium of Second Life. You can listen to the programme in-world now at http://main.radioriel.org, or simply click here to start your player, if your browser is configured to do so. Listeners in the United States are encouraged to tune in using this link: http://loudcity.com/stations/radio-riel/tune_in
