From the Library: Happy Birthday Benjamin Britten!

Today is the 97th anniversary of the birth of famed English composer Benjamin Britten.  Britten composed his first piece at the age of fourteen, and from that point forward his life and career were in music.  Britten was prolific and he wrote many different types of pieces, such as opera, solo vocal, chamber, orchestral and film music.  He was also a renowned pianist and conductor.

Today's program on gullar sahir's Main stream features many of Britten's works and works from other 20th Century composers with whom he was friends or by whom he was influenced throughout his life as a composer, including: Gustav Holst, Dmitri Shostakovich, Aaron Copland and Mstislav Rostropovich.

gullar sahir produces this program in conjunction with the Alexandrian Free Library Consortium of Second Life. You can listen to the program now at http://main.radioriel.org. Today's music originates from the music library of Gabrielle Riel.

For more information on the Alexandrian Free Library, current exhibits and the work of Consortium members in general, please visit the Alexandrian Free Library website, or one of their branches in-world.
