Now entering chat range: The Funk

This evening Monday Night World Music brings you a diverse selection of funk and other danceable beats from around the world. The clubs of Nigeria burst into an explosion of funk after James Brown's famous visit to Lagos in 1970. His influence began with the great Fela Kuti and spread throughout Africa, continuing today in sounds as diverse as West African pop queen Angelique Kidjo and the street sounds of Kwaito coming out of South Africa. In the meantime, that infectious downbeat found its way into music from Latin America too, and even the Middle East and India were not immune.

So please come join us tonight, 6-8:30PM SLT, for a Funkalicious evening. You can join Carter in world at Madhu's Cafe Indien, or listen in on gullar sahir's main stream. Hope to see you there!
