Jazz Around the World - 6-8:30PM SLT

This past weekend, I (Carter) had the pleasure of attending my third Newport Jazz Festival. And, as has become a sort of Monday Night World Music tradition, my first show after the festival is an adventure in international jazz.

Tonight's set will include selections from three new (to me) artists whom I heard for the first time at the festival. You'll hear Regina Carter, a violin player whose band includes an accordion and a kora, the traditional string instrument from Mali. Also in the mix, a sneak peek at Miguel Zenรณn's new album of jazz grooves inspired by Puerto Rico. And there will be music from Israeli trumpeter Avishai Cohen.

Also in the world-jazz mix, South Africa's Hugh Masekela; some Indo-Jazz fusion from the likes of Rudresh Mahanthappa and Vijay Iyer; and much, much more. This is a set you don't want to miss. So come hang out and enjoy the grooves tonight from 6-8:30PM SLT. You can find us in world at Madhu's Cafe Indien, or listen in on gullar sahir's main stream. Hope to see you there!
